A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Jim Haverkamp lives and works in Durham, North Carolina, where he is a freelance video editor, teacher, filmmaker, and father (not necessarily in that order).

His award-winning short fiction and documentary films have screened around the world, including the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Black Maria Film Festival, Brazil's Documenta festival, regional PBS, and on Czech TV.

Jim was awarded a Filmmaking Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council, toured on the Southern Circuit of Independent Film, has served on the selection committee and shorts jury of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and, with his wife, Joyce Ventimiglia, is co-founder of the Strange Beauty Film Festival.

As a freelance editor, Jim helps craft compelling videos for diverse clients, including Red Hat, Merge Records, W.W. Norton, and the UNC system. He works regularly with Erica Rothman at Nightlight Productions and other fine producers.

Jim also teaches editing and video production for Duke University's Program in the Arts of the Moving Image, video for theater design for Duke Theater Studies, and short form production at Duke's Center for Documentary Studies.
