Jim Haverkamp lives in Durham, North Carolina, where he is a freelance video editor, teacher, filmmaker, husband, and father (not necessarily in that order).

His award-winning short fiction and documentary films have screened around the world, including the London Underground Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, The American Dance Festival, Brazil's Documenta festival, regional PBS, and on Czech TV. His work has also been featured in TriQuarterly and the Journal of Short Film.

Jim was awarded a Filmmaking Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council, toured on the Southern Circuit of Independent Film, has served on the selection committee and shorts jury of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and, with his wife, Joyce Ventimiglia, is co-founder of the Strange Beauty Film Festival.

He teaches courses in editing and moving image practice for Duke University's Program in the Arts of the Moving Image, and short form video production at Duke's Center for Documentary Studies.

He also enjoys designing video elements for theatrical productions, including work with Archipelago Theatre, Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern, Duke Theater Studies, and Forty/AM.

As a freelance editor, Jim helps craft compelling videos for diverse clients, including Red Hat, Merge Records, W.W. Norton, and the UNC system. He works regularly with Erica Rothman at Nightlight Productions and other fine producers.
